Elevates Quality and Efficiency with Essemtec Equipment Investment
“Quality improvements is our main goal while enhancing the speed of our processes. I am sure we will reach both objectives very quickly with the Essemtec equipment.” Marcin Kapera
Background
SKALARKI electronics Ltd, a leading company specialising in flight simulator design and manufacturing, began as a one-person, small business in 2010, converting to a partnership a year later with a vision to create innovative I/O boards for flight simulators. Over the years, fuelled by their passion and dedication, SKALARKI has experienced remarkable growth. They quickly recognised the market need for Airbus A320 home simulators and started developing various products to meet this demand. They are committed to excellence and integrated in-house developed I/O solutions and THT-based PCBs into their offerings. In 2014, SKALARKI transformed into a limited company, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
SKALARKI expanded its operations and invested in high-end CNC machines to further enhance its product quality. This move allowed them to deliver products comparable to the best in the market. As its growth continued, SKALARKI acquired larger industrial units and expanded its workforce, solidifying its position as a key player in the industry. In 2022, SKALARKI moved to its own state-of-the-art 900m² facility, providing a solid foundation for its ongoing growth.
Essemtec Equipment
Recognising the importance of continued SMD manufacturing improvement and quality, SKALARKI consulted with Altus Group to add to their assembly technology. The company invested in equipment from Essemtec, industry leaders in SMT pick-and-place equipment and intelligent production storage and reflow systems.
“Manual assembly has its limitations. As we expand to a commercial market, our products face advanced requirements and must meet higher expectations. Implementing automated assembly processes will allow us to meet quality standards quickly and efficiently,” said Marcin Kapera
The acquisition of Essemtec equipment, including the Fox SMT Pick and Place unit and Convection Reflow Oven, was driven by their commitment to delivering exceptional products and increasing production efficiency of more complex microcontroller-based designs which include BGA chips and SOM modules.
The Essemtec Fox stands out with its remarkable versatility. It can be expanded in any direction and process, providing SKALARKI with the flexibility to adapt and grow their manufacturing capabilities as needed. Despite its powerful capabilities, the system occupies only 1m² of floor space, making it an ideal choice for production environments.
With up to 180 lanes on a single standalone system (120 lanes with inline), the Fox offers an extensive range of possibilities for SKALARKI’ s high-mix production requirements. The machine's multi flexible feeder and multi-lane cassette options further enhance its adaptability, ensuring smooth handling of various components and assemblies.
Configurable heads allow for jetting, dispensing, or placement, to ensure broad versatility in handling different production tasks. With a high-resolution digital vision system and full operator support, SKALARKI can achieve precise and accurate placement of components, resulting in high-quality end products and achieve superior results.
Enhancing SMD Manufacturing
The Essemtec equipment has already begun transforming SKALARKI’ s production of PCBAs and perfectly aligns with SKALARKI’ s requirements. “The Fox is the ideal pick and place machine for our SMD line,” said Marcin. “With 400 different PCBs produced using the same set of components, the system’s compact size, quick job change capabilities, large feeder count and advanced features has only confirmed our choice.
“Quality improvements is our main goal while enhancing the speed of our processes. I am sure we will reach both objectives very quickly with the Essemtec equipment.” Said Marcin
SKALARKI aims to significantly improve product quality and efficiency by automating the assembly process. With Altus' support, SKALARKI is confident in integrating the new technology and maximising its potential seamlessly.
The Future
SKALARKI plans to maximise its investment in Essemtec equipment over the next 18 months. Their primary objective is to maximise the utilisation of the machines, ensuring a seamless transition into full-scale production.
The next phase will focus on optimising production and capitalising on the flexibility and capabilities of their new equipment. Joe Booth, Altus CEO, concluded: "Collaborating with SKALARKI on their investment in Essemtec's high-tech solutions and building a relationship with them has been a pleasure. Their dedication to delivering top-quality flight simulators and their drive to continuously improve their manufacturing processes has been inspiring. We are proud to support SKALARKI every step of the way, providing guidance and advice when they need it.” Tony Sweetman, Sales Manager, Altus Group Ltd.
